Thesis Title: The Story Beneath Their Feet. Five music teachers' life histories.

About

I am professor at the School of Music, Örebro University, Sweden. I am also Subject representative in musicology. I received my PhD in Musicology with a direction in Music Education from Örebro University in spring 2005, became reader (docent) 2009 and professor 2011.

At present I am teaching undergraduate courses in music education, qualitative research methodology and graduate courses in philosophy of music and sociology of music. Previously I have been an instructor in teaching methods and ensemble conducting in music teacher education and for 14 years I worked as a music teacher at upper secondary school.

Research interests include questions about the concepts of knowledge and learning, the relation between theory and practice in music education, narrative inquiry and life history research. My research interests have led to presentations at international conferences in Europe and USA, as well as publications in the journals Research Studies in Music Education, Music Education Research, British Journal of Music Education and Nordic Research in Music Education. I am also an active member within Research Alliance of Institutes for Music Education (RAIME).

I am currently in charge of a cross-cultural perspective research project, designated Professional Knowledge in Music Teacher Education. The project is coordinated from Örebro University, Sweden and consists of a number of international studies concerning music teacher education.
The overall aims within the project are to problematise the neture of 'knowledge', investigate how knowledge is constituted and conceptualised, and in addition to investigate if it is differently constituted in different cultures and if so, why.

The project will be published in a book, printed at Ashgate, 2012.
